Welcome to my weekly music corner. Today there is special issue about Soul & Jazz Sisters. I would like to pay tribute to some great Ladies in Soul and Jazz.

As always, I tried to select a mix between old and new songs. Behind the stars and their songs there are sometimes touching and sad stories. For example Big Mama Thornton written and performed first „Ball and Chain“, but Janis Joplin made this song later worldwide popular. But I love the cover version from Etta James too. Inge Brandenburg was the German Lady Jazz in the 60`s with her unique voice. But her dream to become a famous singer failed due to problems with Alcohol and her vocal chords. She passed forgotten and totally impoverished in 1999. In 2011 a German director made a documentation about her life with enormous success. 12 years after her death, she got the attention and success and appreciation for her music.  Sharon Jones started late her career. As she has the first success, she got cancer. After the therapy she is touring around the world, still with a bald head. A remarkable and powerful woman, I think.

All previous compilations you can find here in the blog in the category “Playlist” as well on “YouTube”.

Now, Listen, Relax and Enjoy!

  1. Many, many thanks!!

Trotzdem herzlichen Dank für den Hinweis.
